Last night I made one of my favorite childhood snacks that popularly goes by the name ‘Puppy Chow’ or ‘Buddy Mix’. Growing up my sister would always make this for us during our summer breaks so it holds a special place in my heart. It barely counts as ‘baking’ or ‘cooking’ as the only real cooking is the use of a microwave but I think that is part of the charm of this super simple 5 ingredient snack.
Well, I thought it could be the perfect road trip snack (more to come on that later!) so I went to the store and bought 3 of the 5 ingredients I didn’t have in the house.
(Clockwise from top left: My ingredients: Chex rice cereal, powdered sugar, peanut butter, chocolate syrup) Not pictured: butter
Ready for the super complicated instructions… melt chocolate syrup, peanut butter and a tab of butter in a bowl (your preference in the peanut butter to chocolate ration is all based upon personal preference so taste and adjust as needed). Stir in your Chex cereal until everything is evenly coated but not soupy. Transfer the Chex to a Zip-lock bag that has powdered sugar in it. Here is the fun part… shake, shake and shake some more until all the Chex are covered in sugary deliciousness. You can add more powdered sugar if your Chex are not coated.

Then you might ask what you do next and the answer is simple… pour yourself a little bowl and enjoy!
(Delicious Buddy Mix!)
Alright, I should have probably picked a different title for this post than ‘Get Your Bake On’ but you get the idea. Enjoy!
Yum! Looks just how I remember it!
