32 Weeks // Pregnancy Breakdown

I am coming into the last few weeks of my pregnancy and it is all starting to feel very real now. There is no doubt that my bebe bump is on full display and the only option at this point is to embrace it with open arms. Ryan and I are excited but also a bit overwhelmed at all we have left to do before our due date in early september. Here is a recap of how things have been since my last recap about 6 weeks ago.

26 Weeks // Pregnancy Breakdown

It probably feels like I just posted a pregnancy breakdown and in fact, I did. However, time feels like it is moving like the speed of light so, I thought I would share some updates. I hit the 26 week-mark 3 weeks ago and I feel like I truly look-the-part of a women near the end of her 2nd trimester. My baby bump is like a basketball tucked under my shirt at all times. Ryan and I's conversations are consumed with nursery ideas, food, how I am feeling and over-joyous excitement for our little bebe.

Currently Obsessed // Ankle Strap Wedges

Ever since I was a kid, I have had scrawny little legs. It was an awesome trait for kids to poke fun of growing up but as an adult, I have come to accept that my lean extremities are not going anywhere (no matter how hard I try to bulk them up at the gym). This proves to be a fashion challenge during boot season but come warmer weather, there are some advantages, mainly I can wear strapy sandals without any issue of visually chopping my legs off or making myself look short or squaty. 

This spring I have been obsessing over ankle strap shoes and with my growing baby belly, wedges are my lifelines for comfort throughout the day. I recently splurged and bought a pair of banana republic army green suede wedges and I cannot take them off. Which, got me surfing the interwebs for more ankle strap wedge options. Luckily, there are so many styles out there, nearly any body type can now rock a pair of these shoes and look fabulous doing so.

20 Weeks // Pregnancy Breakdown

A couple weeks ago I shared that we are having a baby boy which we found out at our 20 week appointment a few weeks back. Things are changing at such a rapid pace around here (or wait, am I just the one changing?!) that I thought I should give a little pregnancy breakdown for the first-half of my 2nd trimester.

First Trimester // A Breakdown

My first trimester of pregnancy has been in the rear-view mirror for about 8 weeks now but I thought it would be fun (and a great documentation for me personally) to share the highs and lows through this crazy experience of growing a human in my belly.

Last week I jetted away to the sun and sand of puerto vallarta. The week was full of family, fun, a bit of adventure and a lot of relaxation. I am fresh off the plane back in denver and trying to get into the swing of things.

Currently Obsessed // Tassels

While planning for our spring break vacation, I became a bit obsessed with all things adorned with a tassel. I love the low-key beachy vibe they bring to an outfit and tassels are everywhere this spring. They are gorgeous thrown on with a maxi dress for a casual day of sightseeing and look great stacked on your wrist to wear with a bikini for a day at the pool. Having a nice dinner out on the town... grab a flowy top, some dressy shorts and a pair of tassel earrings and you are instantly pulled together without looking over the top.

Spring Break // Vacation Essentials

I am over the snow, freezing temperatures and all that comes with the winter months... yes even cozy sweaters, cute boots and over-sized scarves are not cutting it for me anymore. I need sun, sand between my toes and a good book to waste away my afternoons reading.

Spring break is calling my name and luckily for me, ryan and I booked a vacation a couple months ago that is nearly here. I can already envision myself lounging in a beach chair... losing all scope of the real world with the rhythmic sound of the waves crashing onto the beach. I recently picked up these sunnies and a new swimsuit for our trip, now all I need to do is restock my supply of sunscreen and set up a couple playlists for my ipod.

Wardrobe Essentials

I was going through my closet the other day and realized quite a few things...

1. I am a sucker for neutrals

2. I don't wander far from the cuts and styles that I know flatter my shape

3. I like classic pieces that I can wear for years

4. Anything that is 'of the moment' or 'seasonal' typically comes from a big-box retailers where prices are ultra low

The more I looked through my closet, I found that I am a collector of essentials; pieces that work together to build an outfit. My clothes lend to layering and really come together with the help of accessories. So, you can assume there are a lot of neutral colors, approachable fabrics and a bit of simplicity.

I decided to put together a collection of wardrobe essentials... these are all items that I think are the foundation for a woman's closet. Each item can be worn in several ways and are either currently in my closet or I have a version very similar.

Tops: Everyone needs a great white tee, tanks to layer, simple button ups and a couple special, slightly-dressy shirts to match with a variety of bottoms. Finally, when the weather gets chilly, cozy sweaters will keep you staying warm.

Jackets/Dresses/Bottoms: Vests are practical and add a sporty element to any outfit. A classic leather jacket will never go out of style along with a military-inspired piece; they both add a bit of edge which I love. As for skirts, pencil-cuts are universally flattering and can work with a variety of tops. Every girl should have a lbd, along with a great-fitting pair of black + white pants along with a go-to pair of denim.

Bags + Shoes:  Neutrals rule in this category. A simple black cross body bag and a large tan tote will take you from work to the weekend easily. I love scarves and will buy cheap colorful ones seasonally but tend to reach for a cozy neutral option more often then not. As for shoes, I get the most wear out of my neutral flats, classic patent pumps, riding boots and a chunky-heeled wedge.

Latest Obsession // Camel Coat

Baby it's cold outside! Winter is here and will be sticking around for the months ahead... well at least in denver that is. When the temperatures get low, it is essential to layer a warm coat over any outfit before heading out into the elements. I am currently obsessing over camel coats. Their rich colors, clean lines and classic feel make them the perfect addition to any wardrobe.

Falling

Summer is still technically happening... until the 23rd of this month but if you live in denver than you know that fall is truly, in full effect. The leaves are starting to turn, the air is crisp and I am reaching for pieces in my closet to layer together. I even busted out boots twice already this week.

Fall is my favorite time of year so in the spirit of the season that is upon us in every way but the date, here is a roundup of my favorite seasonal items.

Hut, Hut... Hike

Tonight kicks off the regular season for my home team, the denver broncos. The streets will be flooded in orange, navy and white as we cheer on our boys who will be taking on the colts for #sundaynightfootball. I am of course pumped for another season of tailgating, followed by watching all the games with family + friends. And, to look the part, here is a roundup of my favorite broncos gear for the season.

Also, if you have not checked out her fantasy football, you are missing out. It's an awesome weekly pod-cast hosted by some of the most well-versed and football-crazed fans I know, who just happen to be women. These ladies sure do know their shit when it comes to draft picks for fantasy football, weekly stats, teams, players, coaches... I could go on. AE Denim // Two Ways

I just scored 2 new pairs of denim (for less than $30 each!) from american eagle's awesome sale this past weekend. I loved the fit of both their stretch skinny jeans and their low-rise jeggings so I scooped up both but decided to buy them in two separate washes and styles. I cannot wait to style these up... mixing lady-like, glam and edgy pieces together to create looks that are similar to the ones I posted about here last week.

Edgy Style At Its Best

I would say my personal style is pretty classic but I love the look of mixing basics with edgy pieces to punch things up. Like a pair of torn jeans... they can look totally dressy when styled with a fitted button down + a statement necklace. I also am a huge fan of layering feminine tops with military-inspired jackets, sweet and strong all in one look. Below are some of my favorite edgy looks right now, straight from my pinterest page. 

As you can see, I am a creature of habit... lots of neutrals, silhouettes with jackets + skinny jeans and pieces that work in multiple seasons. I don't stray too far from what I know looks best on my body-type but that also allows for me to invest in clothing that will last for years and not go out of style.

Dreamin of a Pool Day

Today would be the perfect day to pack up a big tote, fill it with refreshing snacks, a new book to dive into and find a pool to lounge by all day. It is nearly 90 degrees here in denver and the weather is begging me to relax in the sun. I put together my dream pool day essentials... a nautical inspired suit, classic accessories and a bit of sparkle to keep things fun. Now, if I only had an open schedule to make my dream a reality. Oh shoot. The day will not be a total loss and I will be outside enjoying time with friends + family but you know... a girl can dream of a quiet day by the pool.

Summer // Style Essentials

Summer is upon us and for the past couple of weeks, I keep gravitating to the same few items while getting dressed. For me, easy and comfortable pieces are essential, especially as the weather warms up here in denver. Add in simple gold jewelry, a pair of $5 flip flops and go enjoy the beautiful weather.

My summer staples are all super affordable and available at big-box stores where sizes and colors are plentiful. My motto is to find what fits you best and stock up in multiple colors for easy mixing and matching.

1 Shirt // 4 Ways

A button down dress shirt is a wardrobe staple. This single item is a powerhouse in any woman's closet as it is so multi-functional. The key to a great button down is finding the right fit. Tailored, slim through the sleeves and just long enough to tuck-in, my non-iron sateen button down is from banana republic and one I reach for regularly when getting dressed.

Latest Obsession // Uniqlo Tees

During my recent trip to san francisco, I stopped into the uniqlo store in union square to look at some polo shirts for my husband. They had a great selection with tons of variations of both cut and color but I was quickly drawn out of the men's department by the beautiful display table of supima cotton tees. Perfectly stacked piles of whisper thin, soft cotton shirts in soothing spring colors that beconed to be taken home. I snagged up a crisp white one (for less than $13 too!) and am already planning an online order of every other color.

These are the perfect spring shirts in my mind. Not too tight, a relaxed fit that is flattering, ultra soft fabric and easy to mix and match with spring fashions. Seriously, I cannot get enough!

1 Dress // 4 Ways

Summer dresses are everywhere right now I am sure you have seen at least one of the many old navy ads with the hilarious amy pohler. Over the past few weeks the store has promoted their sales on jeans, crop pants and recently, dresses for as low as $15. I was starry-eyed by the ads so I made a stop into old navy last week and walked out with a little b+w dress that is beyond functional and cute.

How functional you might ask? Well, I decided to come up with 4 ways to wear this cute little number and I am so excited about how they came out. If you are in denver, I would not be surprised if you saw me around town in one of these four variations.

Spring Style Struggles

Hooray it's spring. The weather is warming up. There are flowers popping up in every garden around town. The sun does not set until 7. And then there is the spring fashion... well, sort of.

I could not be happier to ditch the bulky winter wear and change things up except for the fact that I do not know how to wear spring clothing. Like, at all! Fall, summer and winter fashions makes sense in my world but spring is like a foreign language. Also, to be 100% honest, I am not a huge lover of pastels.

I am in need of some serious spring style suggestions to help mix my classic, slightly edgy, fitted and simple pieces with the poppy, pastel and ultra-feminine spring trends. All of these items are currently in season and still feel like 'me'. Now, if I only had an endless budget to purchase these items and start mixin' things up in my wardrobe.
